Cats & Kittens

Most of our animals live in loving foster homes.

LAWS has a variety of kitties awaiting their forever homes. Unless otherwise noted, our adoptable cats live with foster families. Due to a shortage of foster homes, some cats reside at our Adoption Center and are marked "I'm an AC kitty!" You can visit them during public hours, and fostering one in the meantime is always welcome.

Cat & kitten adoption requirements

Here is what we require and how we review, up front, so you know where you stand before you fill anything out.

Who can adopt

  • You must be 21 years of age or older to adopt a cat or small animal from LAWS. Proof of age is required.
  • We verify your address, and where you rent, your landlord’s approval.
  • If your housing is temporary, please think carefully about whether you can take a pet with you when you move. Moving is one of the biggest reasons animals come back to shelters.
  • If you are not certain you can offer a permanent home, foster with us instead. We cover the expenses, and it helps just as much.

How your application is reviewed

  • Applications are reviewed with specific animals in mind. Not all applications are approved.
  • Approval does not guarantee the adoption of a specific cat.
  • Meetings are scheduled only after an application has been reviewed and approved.
  • Review depends on volunteer availability and can take several weeks.

Complete applications only

  • Answer every question thoroughly. Short answers leave us unable to make a good match.
  • An incomplete application may be set aside or denied outright.
  • False or misleading information may result in immediate denial.

Our right to decline

LAWS may deny an application, or stop an adoption at any point, when a placement does not appear to be in the animal’s best interest.

The health, safety and happiness of our adoptable pets comes before every other consideration. That is the standard every application is measured against.

Adoption fees

  • Kitten$115
  • Second kitten$95
  • Adult cat$90
  • Second adult cat$70

The second-cat discount applies only when cats are adopted together. Rats are $25. Fees include spay or neuter, vaccinations, and microchipping.

Please read the requirements above before you apply.
