Volunteer

Volunteers are our lifeblood.

Your time is a priceless gift, and it changes lives.

At LAWS, our volunteers are invaluable. From caring for our animals to administrative support and helping at events, volunteers play an essential role in every part of our organization. We have two facilities: the Adoption Center, open to the public, and our Intake Facility for staff and volunteers. There are opportunities at both.

Worth knowing before you apply: our on-site animal roles, enrichment and kennel care included, are all with cats. Our dogs live in foster homes rather than at our facilities, so hands-on dog opportunities are occasional and unpredictable. If dogs are your reason for volunteering, fostering a dog is where you are needed most.

Help at 606 Skyline Road

We need builders as much as animal people

Our building at 606 Skyline Road is being turned into a real shelter room by room, and almost all of it is being done by people who showed up with tools. If that is you, this is the most valuable hour you can give us.

Skilled trades

Electricians, plumbers, HVAC techs, drywallers, painters, carpenters, flooring and concrete crews. Donated trade work is how the roof, the heating, the electrical and the floors got done, and it has moved this project further than any single check.

Whether you can donate a day, cut us a rate, or bid a job at cost, we would like to hear from you. Licensed and insured work is welcome for anything that needs a permit.

Handy and willing

You do not need a license or a trade to be useful here. There is demolition, hauling, site cleanup, painting, fence and kennel work, furniture and equipment assembly, landscaping, and plenty of moving things from one end of the building to the other.

Bring a friend, bring a truck, bring nothing but a free Saturday. Tell us roughly what you are comfortable doing and we will match you to the next job on the list.

Put your name down

More about the work and what is still to do on the trades and skilled volunteers page and the Almost Home Project.
