The Laramie Animal Welfare Society ("LAWS," "we," "us," or "our") is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit animal rescue serving Laramie and Albany County, Wyoming. This privacy policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your personal information when you visit our website or communicate with us by phone or text message.
We may collect the following information when you interact with us:
We use the information we collect to respond to your inquiries about adoptions, surrenders, fostering, and volunteering; to process donations; to send you updates about LAWS events and adoptable animals (only if you opt in); and to coordinate animal care with our volunteers and foster families.
When you text our phone number at (307) 460-3775, you consent to receive text message replies from LAWS related to your inquiry. Message frequency varies based on your interaction. Message and data rates may apply depending on your mobile carrier and plan.
We do not share your phone number or text message data with third parties for marketing purposes. Your information is used solely to respond to your inquiry and coordinate animal welfare services.
You may opt out of text messages at any time by replying STOP. After opting out, you will receive one final confirmation message. You may text HELP for assistance or contact us at hello@laramieanimals.org.
LAWS does not sell or rent your personal information.
There is one sharing arrangement we want to be upfront about. LAWS is a partner shelter in the Hill's Food, Shelter & Love program, which is how we feed the animals in our care. When you adopt from us, we share your name and email address with Hill's Pet Nutrition so they can send you new pet parent information and coupons. That is all we send, and we are not paid for it. Our adoption agreement says the same thing. If you would rather we didn't, tell your adoption counselor or email us and we will leave you out.
Apart from that, we share your information only with service providers who help us operate (such as our phone system and email platform), and only as required to deliver our services to you.
We take reasonable precautions to protect your personal information. However, no method of electronic transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
We keep information only as long as it is useful for the reason we collected it.
You can ask us what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Email hello@laramieanimals.org and we will respond within thirty days.
Being straight with you about the legal position: most state privacy laws do not reach an organization like ours. The California law applies to for-profit businesses, and the state laws that do cover nonprofits set thresholds in the tens of thousands of residents that a Laramie animal rescue will never approach. We honor these requests anyway, because they are the right thing to do and not because a statute forces us to.
Two honest limits. We may keep what we need for financial records and for the safety and traceability of an animal’s care history, and information already shared with the services below has to be requested from them as well.
We are a volunteer-run rescue and we do not build our own software. When you fill in one of our applications, the form itself is hosted by ShelterLuv, our shelter management system, and your answers are stored there. Donations are processed by PayPal and our giving platforms; we never see or store your card number. Our website is served by Cloudflare. Email and text messaging run through our mail and phone providers.
Each of these has its own privacy policy governing what it does with the information you give it.
Our website carries no advertising trackers, no cookies, and no social media pixels. We do not build a profile of you, we do not follow you to other sites, and there is no third party watching you read about our animals.
We do count how many people read which pages, because we need to know whether our animals are being seen. We use Cloudflare Web Analytics, which is built to measure without identifying. It sets no cookies, it stores nothing on your device, and it does not fingerprint your browser, your IP address, or anything else about you. It tells us that a page was read. It cannot tell us who read it, and it cannot follow you anywhere else.
This is worth stating plainly because it is unusual: we have never sold, rented, traded or monetised anyone’s personal information, and we will not. Not to data brokers, not to other charities, not to anyone. The one sharing arrangement we have is the Hill’s program described above, we are not paid for it, and you can opt out of it.
Our junior volunteer application is for people under {_numsafe("18")}, and a parent or guardian signs it. We collect only what we need to run the program safely and we do not knowingly collect information from children under {_numsafe("13")} online. If you believe a child has given us information without a guardian’s involvement, email us and we will remove it.
If we ever discover that personal information has been exposed, we will tell the people affected promptly and plainly, describe what happened and what we are doing about it, and notify any authority the law requires us to notify.
If we change how we handle personal information we will update this page and change the date at the top. Material changes will also go out in our newsletter rather than being made quietly.
