In an emergency

Please contact a veterinarian

LAWS is a volunteer-run rescue, not an emergency or animal-control service, so we are not able to respond to urgent or after-hours calls. If your animal is sick or injured, please phone a veterinarian right away.

Numbers for the Laramie clinics, the nearest 24-hour hospitals, and animal control are just below.

Email reaches us fastest, and goes straight to hello@laramieanimals.org, which flows right into the LAWS donations and communications portal.

Urgent help

Who to call

LAWS cannot take emergency calls, but these can. Phone before you drive. After-hours cover changes, and whoever answers can tell you what to do on the way.

A stray, lost or found animal

  • HoursMon to Fri 1pm to 5:30pm

    Address1064 North 5th Street

The city shelter, and a separate organization from LAWS. If your own pet is lost, reclaiming has to happen in these hours and you will need proof of ownership.

  • Hours24 hours

    Address620 Plaza Court

For a stray or a loose animal that is not in immediate danger.

  • An animal in immediate danger9-1-1

    Hours24 hours

The city lists 9-1-1 as the emergency number for animal control. Use it for an animal that is badly hurt, in traffic, trapped, or a danger to someone.

  • Hours24 hours

Check before driving to Colorado in winter. I-80 and US-287 close in storms, and 1-888-WYO-ROAD reaches the same service.

Please phone to confirm before you count on any of this. Every organization here is independent of LAWS. We do not control their hours, and we cannot know whether someone is on call tonight. Hours change, practices merge and close, and after-hours cover is often the first thing to go. We last checked every number and every set of hours on 18 August 2026. If you find something out of date, tell us and we will fix it for the next person.
