His owner ran out of road. We did not.
This handsome boy came to our local shelter after struggling with a painful urinary blockage. His previous owner had taken him for veterinary care more than once and simply could not afford to keep doing it. That is not neglect. That is a person running out of money before they run out of love.
We took Poke into our program, into foster care, and covered his medical costs. Starting in late September he had nearly two weeks of veterinary treatment: catheter care, medications, and a specialized urinary diet. It came to approximately $1,000, with the possibility of surgery later on.
On 9 October he moved into a foster home where he could be watched closely while he recovered.
